Where: Buena Onda, Philadelphia
Price: Mahi-Mahi – $3.50; Swordfish – $4.50.
Extras:
- MAHI – Chipotle remoulade, avocado, red cabbage, jicama slaw
- SWORDFISH – black bean purée, apple/chayote slaw, crème fraîche, charred lime juice
Review: Both tacos were made with fresh tortillas, which automatically brings it up a few points in my mind.
- MAHI – delicious. I don’t usually like mayonnaise-like sauces with my fish tacos, but this was such a perfect combo that I am willing to suspend my rule.
- SWORDFISH – the black bean purée was okay, but a little jarring after the remoulade. I also wish the portion had been a bit larger, since it was more expensive!
Update (2022): 6 years later, I’ve returned to see if things have changed. The menu has changed only slightly…the only options being “fresh fish” or Pacific shrimp taco now. Both are currently $4 per taco, but they are just as delicious as they were before! My rating stays.
