Review: I didn’t even know this place served fish tacos until our tour guide on Lana’i declared their fish tacos “the best in the world.” The gauntlet had been thrown, and I was up for the challenge.
The tortillas were not handmade, nor were they particularly fresh, so I’m deducting a half a point there. The fish itself (two types of fish, actually) WAS fresh, and that certainly came through. No sauces, rubs, or marinades to disguise the taste was needed. The fish spoke for itself.
However, both tacos were piled so high with fish, lettuce, and tomatoes that I made a big huge mess eating them. A delicious mess, but a mess nonetheless. They could have easily divided the same amount of food into 3 manageable tacos, but maybe they are catering to the big-portion American tourist crowd.
The sides were also HUGE portions, which is wonderful for someone who might be coming from a tiring day surfing on the beach, but actually was too much for me to handle, especially since the taste of all of them was mediocre at best. Luckily, I’m only rating the tacos, not the rest of the meal.
